This morning, I noticed something printed on the cover of my overnight oats: “Start even if you don’t know how.”

That phrase stopped me—because it’s been one of my personal growth strategies for decades.

In my 20s, I took over a struggling summer day camp. I didn’t know the first thing about scaling programs, managing staff, or marketing to families. But I started anyway. Two years later, the camp went from $17,000 in income to over $75,000.

Since then, I’ve launched businesses and projects without having all the answers upfront.
What I learned is this:

Clarity almost never comes before action. It comes because of action.

Here are three practical ways to apply this mindset right now:

  1. Name the next step, not the whole plan. You don’t need to know everything—just the very next thing to do.

  2. Learn in motion. Instead of endless research, commit to a small test. Launch the campaign, make the call, send the proposal. Adjust as you go.

  3. Redefine failure. See it as tuition. Every misstep buys you knowledge.

Leaders, entrepreneurs, managers—waiting until you feel “ready” is often just disguised fear. Start, even if you don’t know how. You’ll learn what you need in the process, and you’ll be further along than those who never began.
